Dad's Diary

Today I am going to write something on ‘A Diary’. Diaries are great ways to put one’s thought on and also to keep track of all the events in your life. Why I say this, is because I have finally found my father aged old diary. I use to see him with this big red diary when I was very young then. I knew he used to write every important date in it, especially personal record of events, experiences and observations. Now that he has passed on, I am so glad that I can find all his life experiences from the time he was in school in the 1940s and he went on to relate all of his life events and it has been a real eye opener to us. We owe all of the information from this red thick diary of his.

Floral Slipcover

I am glad I found the time to update my blog as I have been quite occupied and busy. Time really flies, as now we are in the month of March.  Anyway, so much has happened along the way and really what a start to the New Year. Apart from my daily chores and work I recently find time to sew a slip cover for my Ottoman stool and bed headboard. I am quite thrilled with the outcomes and I also found out that I had a flair for anything floral, thus I bought some floral fabrics to add to my collections. I have so many projects waiting to be done but it definitely needs some planning for it to get started. Anyway, here I would like to share some pictures of my floral slipcovers.

Happy Valentine's Day

On the 14th of February is Valentine’s Day, not that I am all over it but there was a time when we as a family celebrated the day just for the fun of it. I even got a card to show that we ever got around celebrating it. I came across it while browsing through my collections of memorabilia and I thought to myself hey, I will write something about it.  The card was drawn by Jonathan and I am glad that I still keep it all these times. Looking back I really feel that we were a much closed knit family as we took time to do this little thing together. Valentine’s Day is not just for young people, to them the day is always associated with romantic love but whatever it is I think for a family, it will be a day to celebrate with love and a box of Hersey Milk Chocolate..Hmm. Here is a popular poem for Valentine’s Day from a collection of English Nursery Rhymes 1784.

The rose is red, the violet's blue,

The honey's sweet, and so are you.
Thou art my love and I am thine;
I drew thee to my Valentine:
The lot was cast and then I drew,

And Fortune said it shou'd be you

Steamed Layered Butter Cake With Butter Cream Icing

Last weekend we were invited by our neighbour Lucy, who also happened to be my good friend to have a simple dinner with her family. Well this invitation gives me the opportunity to bring along some homemade goodies. After pondering for a while, I decided to bake this colourful layered cake for her. Just as soon as I rewrite the recipe I proceeded to steam the cake. It is a tedious process but it was worth the while when I see the end result of the cake and most importantly, the taste was out of this world so to say. I decorated it with a delicious butter icing and piped pastel coloured flowers on it as well.  Well, when I brought it along to my friend’s house everyone oohed and aahed in excitement, they said the petite cake looks so cute; I cannot deny that it looks pretty though! Here are the pictures I took of it. The dinner was wonderful with Evon roasted chicken and the angel hair spaghetti.

Wood Crafted Tulip Flower

Tulips flower, I like the colourful blooms of tulip. Everybody knows that Holland is the main grower and exporter of tulips flowers but I did not get this flower from Holland or just about any florist shop, as colourful as it may be. Instead my sister Josie gave it to me and she bought it from a Thailand exhibition she visited a few years back. What was interesting about these tulip flowers is that they were carved out of wood. Yes, wood! I found that it was amazing how it could look so real, don’t you agree? It is also easy to clean with just a wet cloth or microfiber cloth.
